Saturday football
‘Twas the week before Christmas, when all through the Premier League
Barely a crowd was stirring, not even a Scouse;
The stockings were hung by the shirt sleeves with care,
In hopes that the kit man would soon be there.
The children were nestled all snug in their beds,
While visions of goals danced in their heads.
Enough of all that.

MANCHESTER UNITED vs BRIGHTON & HOVE ALBION
(Postponed – Covid)

ASTON VILLA vs BURNLEY (1500)
One of two top flight games still on for now, and sadly the least appealing of the lot. Villa are flying under Gerrard and will dislodge Spurs in seventh spot if they win this. Burnley, still in the bottom three, have games in hand on those above and will exchange places with Watford if they pick up maximum points today. Home win.

SOUTHAMPTON vs BRENTFORD
(Postponed – Covid)

WATFORD vs CRYSTAL PALACE
(Postponed – Covid)

WEST HAM UNITED vs NORWICH CITY
(Postponed – Covid)

LEEDS UNITED vs ARSENAL (1730)
Well, this one has some appeal to warm your football-deprived cockles. Arsenal’s away form won’t inspire great confidence in their fans, having won just once on the road since September. But they’re on a roll, which will. Poor old Leeds remain perilously close to the drop zone and will be looking for a point at least this evening. Draw.

*SUNDAY*

EVERTON vs LEICESTER CITY
(Postponed – Covid)

WOLVERHAMPTON WANDERERS vs CHELSEA (1400)
After their demolition at the foot of Arthur Masuaku, Chelsea’s fortunes have plummeted. But they’re not top three for nothing and Tommy Tuchel will want to see his side return to title contention. They’ll still be third at the end of this, though. Wolves have struggled for goals this season, although Jimenez returns from suspension to add threat and flair. How much god will it do the hosts? Away win.

NEWCASTLE UNITED vs MANCHESTER CITY (1415)
The Barcodes are increasingly finding the deep midwinter not to their liking and will stay in the bottom three at Christmas whatever happens. Man City, at the summit of the division, will not want to give any advantage to Liverpool who play next. Incentives are there for both sides. But, well, you know. Away win.

TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR vs LIVERPOOL (1630)
The last Premier League game before Christmas and, on paper at least, a good one to usher in the Christmas week. However, Covid looks likely to claim more Spurs players, with Emerson and Son-without-emer among those set to miss out. Even if they had played, you’d still fancy the visitors to be too strong. Away win.

Klopp continues to be a classless prick yet the media still fawn over him, sickening.

Re: Saturday football
VAR is working well enough for off sides, despite it being annoying if you lose a goal to a toe nail, but fouls, penalties, handballs, etc, are in the main still just coming down to the interpretation of the VAR bloke. Its also farcical that every time a ref is sent to the monitor he always reverses his own decision. Why don't they ever stick to their gut feeling/initial call they made at the time, assuming it's not obvious that they got it wrong?

Should be all supporting Kane with that tackle

Wishing more sending offs is strange .

Re: Saturday football
The refereeing has been abysmal for years in the PL and it's ruining games, not to mention affecting results. Shearer was right to call out Mike Riley on MotD.

How is it allowed to go on without correct and proper scrutiny? There is no other industry that I can think of that has no one to answer to. It's a cartel which seems to be untouchable.

Football now is a multi billion concern, and needs to be treated a such, like banks, energy companies, etc, yet it's run as if we're still in the 1970s.

Re: Saturday football
Kane's foot/studs wasn't angled up high, it was fairly flat, but he came in at pace, ie out of control, so dangerous play and a red.

Rumour seems to be that one round off fixtures will be called off, which will be our game at Watford.

Re: Saturday football
Spurs should have buried Liverpool the chances they missed! But all Liverpool fans seem to be focused on is the injustice of the Robertson sending off that "cost them the game!" Unbelievable it was a red all day long, mind you so was Kane IMO, but some you win, some you lose.

Happy the victims didnt get the win, but glad Spurs didnt either.

I don't see that a draw suits us at all. We have next to zero chance of catching Liverpool but have to hope we stay above spurs. Win their games in hand they're 4 points above us (not to mention the confidence they would have gained from that result)

Re: Saturday football
It was a drag back scenario for Jota (the cunt who smashed into Angelo) and chicken Royale just barged into him. Penalty. Mixed emotions though. A draw works out well for us

Whether he stopped or not that’s his right, that ref should be sacked for that comment as he clearly doesn’t understand football if that’s his kind of reasoning.

Shock - Conte goes in and looks at his squad and says they could use a few pounds and be a bit fitter.

Shockingly they had a case of “covid” in the camp that bought them a couple of weeks on the training ground working on fitness, strength and conditioning and shape.

However they manufactured that situation fair play to them, Conte and Levy came up with a plan that will come out in some ex players book in 15 years time.

Meanwhile we are exhausted, misfiring and now missing Coufal Wednesday due to a bullshit red card - while Harry Kane gets a goal to help his confidence, stays on the pitch when if it weren’t Harry Kane he’d have been off.

All I see is a thumping for us Wednesday. Would love to be wrong but don’t think I am. Maybe Moyes might try to match Spurs formation is Cresswell and Johnson are fit which would give us more of a chance - fear the worst but hoping for the best.

Ha ha, the ref apparently told Klopp that he didn’t give a penalty to Jota because he stopped on purpose?

Re: Saturday football
Chelsea werent allowed to call off todays game with 7 players COVID affected so obviously Spurs situation has been worse. Unless they have been lying of course.
This game will have taken a lot out of their ravaged squad.
After a weeks rest I think we will run them ragged.
Fair chance of a RATCHED

Yeah, its becoming obvious what it IS there for

Re: Saturday football
All about timing. Spurs look a bit sharper for their rest and Conte having a bit of time to work with his players. Whereas we look in a bit of a rut with a number of key players missing.

4-6 weeks ago we'd have done them comfortably and Antonio would have bagged a couple such was his confidence. But now our attack looks completed blunt and the entire first choice back four is missing.

Hope I am wrong, but gut feeling is it won't go our way.

The rest has done Spurs good. We’ll have also had a weeks break come Wednesday. Should be a great cup tie.
